Outdoor Photo Sessions

Outdoor Photo Sessions

Spring is coming!  Even though we are wearing our winter jacket today, it’s supposed to be warm  here in Montreal on Tuesday and the temperatures will hopefully continue to only improve.  Already I am having people mention that they would like to do outdoor photo sessions with their family and I wanted to bring up an important point.  I love being  Montreal family photographer and I love outdoor sessions but they do require some planning.

The sun!

Why am I bring this up?  Because the best time of day to do an outdoor photo session is an hour before the sun goes down or one hour after the sun rises for you early birds.  This is called the Golden Hour and it’s when you get those soft, beautifully lit images that everyone LOVES.

BUT…

We live in a part of the world where it’s really tricky to get that beautiful light because the sun sets so late in the summer.  In July, the sun sets as late as 8:40pm.  That means to grab that beautiful light you’d have to have a session from around 7:40pm – 8:40pm which just doesn’t work with tired little kids.

Sunshine, wind through the hair, movement and laughter – outdoor photography has it all

The good news is that the sun is a bit more co-operative with kids schedules in the spring and the fall.  In March and April the sun starts setting at 5:40 and quickly gets later in the day reaching a sunset at 8:00 pm at the end of April.

What’s best for your family?

You may think that you can keep your kid up late, but can you keep your kid up late AND have them love being at a photo shoot and full of smiles?  I ADORE outdoor sessions – I love the natural feel, the look and that amazing sun flare but I want to make sure that you also get the photos you love.  I adore being a Montreal family photographer and I love outdoor sessions but I love my clients being happy even more.

So, if you want those beautiful outdoor sunset images I strongly encourage you to book sooner rather than later.  We can always do outdoor photos as a part of your indoor photography session during the day, but it will be much tougher or even impossible to get all those dreamy, soft images we all love.

If you are interested in booking a session please contact me.  My Montreal family photography sessions are a collaborative process where I learn about your family and exactly what you want to remember from this time in your life.  Whether sessions are done in-home or in my studio I make sure that your child’s personality shines through.  My sessions are fresh, candid and modern.  I don’t use props, and I keep things real.  If you are reading this and nodding your head in agreement – get in touch!  The whole process is easy and fun.  And guess what, it’s often the dads who go at the end ‘that was way easier than I thought!’  Really!

ps Newborn sessions are only done in-home.
