My Approach to Family Photography

October 4, 2020

I have thought a lot about my approach to family photography. My family photography is about much more than simply showing up and taking a picture, it’s about the entire experience and it’s all interrelated.

What do I mean by that? Let me break it down:

Booking Process

I know how busy everyone is and I want to make every step of the way as easy and pain free as possible. This is why I have a clear PDF of my pricing that you can refer to and a link to my calendar that is always up to date.

There’s nothing worse than FINALLY finding a date that works than to write to someone and be told that it’s already taken, am I right? By checking my online calendar you can be sure it’s always up to date and correct.

I’m also happy to give you a call to talk you through any questions or concerns. This is IMPORTANT to me. I want to make sure that we are the right fit so that I can totally fulfill all your expectations (and beyond).

You’ll receive a welcome email from me that includes a questionnaire so I can find out more about you, your family and what you want from the session. You receive a contract so that there are no surprises and all financial terms are crystal clear.

You’ll also receive my Prep Guide (I have prep guides for Family, Maternity, Newborn, Headshot Day and Boudoir!) This will guide you through everything from wardrobe choices to what to expect the day of the shoot. I truly believe that if you are confident and prepared you will be relaxed the day of the shoot and it will be an amazing experience. And guess what – this amazing experience will shine through in your photos.

Still stuck on wardrobe? Get in touch with me and I’ll walk you through my ideas.

But… that’s not it! You’ll also receive an email from me the week before the shoot and the day before the shoot. I know.. it’s a lot of emails. But from my experience things get missed and it’s always nice to be reminded of the details.

Shoot Day

Shoot day is fully guided. So many families show up nervous not knowing what to do. That’s normal! You aren’t a model and every photographer is different. Personally, I will guide you every step of the way from hand placement to movement. I find that if you are confident of what you are doing, you can relax and be yourself. And that’s what I am to capture – YOU!

Post Shoot

Around 2-3 weeks after the shoot you’ll receive your online gallery where you can select your digital images and prints. I’ll also send you an album proof so you can see what an album may look like and make any changes.

1 year later

Ahhh.. but you haven’t heard the last from me! You’ll receive an email to think about booking a new shoot!

My approach to family photography is the labour of love of nearly 5 years of learning and growing and refining. I want to serve my clients the absolute best way possible and give them the most amazing experience and am continually working on every aspect.
