Baby Photography

Why does baby photography make me so happy year after year? There are so many reasons why.

Why I Love Baby Photography

I love photographing emotion, and I don't think there can be anymore emotions possible then the first few weeks with baby. Your heart is bursting with love, and you are in awe with every part of your new baby from the toes to the nose.

These sessions are super intimate and I can reassure you I've seen it all. I was laughing with a client the other day. Her baby was upset for most of the session. There were only snippets when he was calm. And of course, we caught those snippets. When we show the session, the impression was that the baby was calm the entire time but it couldn't be further from the truth.

I can reassure you when you look at session after session where a baby is calm, it may only be 1% of a session.

Baby photography is so ethereal and beautiful. If there are other siblings involved it can also be a little zany and chaotic too which I love. There's so much going on.

How I Handle Baby Photography Challenges

To me, none of these are real challenges but simply part of having a baby. My challenge is to express to the parent(s) that it's OK if their baby is upset or even if they are upset. These are purposely slow and relaxed so no one in stressed out.

-If babies are crying we take a break or I photograph the parent comforting their baby. Simple.

-Siblings who don't care can be a challenge. Usually through games we get them to participate, even if only for a couple minutes.

-House clutter is always a fear for new parents. I can shoot around it or we spot tidy. To be honest I always move furniture anyways for the best light and angle.

What I Offer for Baby Photography

  • Choose your session in-home or at the studio. Both are lifestyle which means I don't use backdrops.
  • Newborn clothes and swaddles (up to 6 months really). Most people don't purchase true newborn clothing and the clothes are always too big which is why I introduced this.
  • Tons of experience photographing babies. We take the session slow with breaks.
  • Babies are not posed so we can shoot at any age.
