My Photography Year Ahead for 2024

It took me a long time to think about My Photography Year Ahead for 2024 and I still don't totally know how it will play out but there are definitely a few things it will be important for me to do this year.

I personally think it's always important to have some sort of vision or goal - even if it's just planning dinner or your day. I am a big fan of lists. They help me feel more in control of my day and life and give me tangible goals to achieve. And then once I achieve them I can move on.

My Photography Year Ahead for 2024

I'm not sure anyone reads these blog posts, so I feel a little more confident about putting my goals out there without a big audience. Ha!

  • Focus on family, maternity and newborn. In the past I have done a lot of boudoir and headshots. I even added a boudoir Instagram account. It was overwhelming. I did neither account justice and nearly every single boudoir post I put out would get flagged for inappropriate content which just sucked. I kind of just gave up. Regardless, I find it much easier to focus all my energy in one spot. I still do get boudoir and headshot enquiries - I just am not going to focus on them as much.
  • Get creative! It's scary to get creative. People may hate it. I may fail. It's much safer to stick the course, but after 7 years I finally feel like I have the confidence to start trying new things.
  • Model Calls - This ties into the above. It's much easier to get creative and push aside the fear of failure with a non-paying client.
  • Sets and Mini Shoots - along with getting creative the idea of creating beautiful sets and experiences for my families seems like a lot of fun and the general direction of the photography industry
  • Outdoor Christmas Set Up - Every year I get many many many enquiries for Christmas photos long after all my holiday set up has been put away and every year it kills me. Honestly, it will just be a relief to say - yeah sure come to my backyard tomorrow let's do this.
  • Education - This was kind of on the back burner for a while. Last year I bought one retreat which took me the entire year to finish and at the end I had to admit it really elevated many aspects of my photography. I've already purchased the 2024 version, as well as another course.

On a personal note my goals are to travel more, continue to learn Spanish, run 3x per week and train with Vagg at The Studio twice per week.
