Deciding on an In-Home vs Studio Photoshoot

One of the biggest questions I get asked is if you should do your photoshoot at the studio or in-home.

I hope I can guide you a little in your choice!

Look at your inspiration images

Are they bright, light and airy? Do they mostly focus on the subject? This leans towards a studio.

Do your images have a lot of shadow? Is there a lot going on in the background? Are they a bit more creative? Think about doing an in-home shoot.

Look at your own home

A lot of people are worried their home isn't perfect or have enough light. I'm worried about that less. I've photographed almost everywhere and it's always been fine. Yes, I may need to set up lighting.

Do you want a picture perfect home, and know you won't be able to clean up? Do you have so much stuff in your home you can barely move, let alone clear a spot for a photo? I'd probably choose studio.

Do you want to do an activity like going for a walk, snack time or reading books? Choose home.

Are you OK with a little bit of chaos and want something super authentic? Choose home.

Do you just want simple, clean, beautiful joyful photos with no hassle? I'd choose studio.
