You're expecting, or you just gave birth and you want to capture this time in your life but it feels so overwhelming. My newborn shoots are simple, easy and beautiful!
NEWBORN FAQs
After 10 years in business, I definitely see the same questions asked over and over again. I thought it would be fun to do a breakdown of the questions I get for each segment I photograph. If you have a specific question don't hesitate to reach out - I've heard them ALLL….
How long are the sessions?
Every baby is different, and every session is different.
In general, studio sessions are shorter because I am already set up when you arrive and the space is designed to be photographed.
Home sessions take longer because I always prep the home - this may mean moving furniture or objects, setting up lighting or putting up light filters.
Typically I allow 1.5 hours for a studio shoot.
In-home shoots I try to keep at 1h45 but can run up to 2h15.
Keep in mind we are not shooting this entire time. There is a fair amount of feeding, diaper changes and comforting and I deliberately leave a lot of time - I don't want you to feel pressured.

What's the difference between an in-Home and studio Newborn session?
Besides length (see above) they have a different vibe.
Studio sessions tend to be more portrait based and minimalist feeling. They are lighter, brighter and airier.
In-home sessions have more going on in the background, but this also tells more of a story of your life right now. They tend to be a bit more emotional, moodier and have more shadow.
If you want clean, modern, bright portraits go for studio.
If you are into more creative, emotional, storytelling sessions go for home.
How many outfit changes?
Babies in general do not like getting their clothes changed, so I limit it to 3. Sometimes we only do 2. The ‘naked’ wrapped poses I do count as one outfit.
I always recommend we start with your favourite outfit and move from there.
When do we book our newborn session?
I always book it on your due date and move it from there. You'll get a message from me one week before asking if you've given birth and usually at that time we push it forward. I don't do really posed newborn sessions so don't have a time limit, but I do suggest if you want photos of your baby asleep you try to do it within the 3 week time frame.
Can I book a mini session with my newborn?
I want to set you up for success, and I don't think 20 minutes is long enough. Sometimes babies need that long to have a feed or be comforted. Bottom line is I don't want to anyone to ever walk away disappointed or stressed.
Do you have outfits I can borrow for my baby?
Yes, almost everyone borrows outfits. Frankly, cute newborn outfits are hard to find and expensive. You need a true newborn size (not 0-3 months). I also have dresses for Mom to borrow which is becoming more popular. All clothes are available to view online.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Personally, I think that you should book at least one month out. This gives you time to look at outfits, work with Amanda, the stylist and read the prep guides. Truthfully though most people (and this is true of all sessions) book 2-3 weeks out.
The questions that drives me bananas….
How many props and backdrops do I use for my photoshoots? NONE! I am shocked by the amount of people (and it's a lot) that enquire and do not look at my photos. There are a LOT of different styles of newborn photography - please make sure my style resonates with you!
Last note…
I get a lot of people who just book a maternity session or just book a newborn session. That's super cool, but there are so many benefits ($$$) to doing a bump and baby package. Just saying.
